It’s almost time to make your plans for Gasparilla 2017! Since 1904, the pirates have stormed the shores of the Hillsborough Bay to celebrate Tampa’s unique pirate history. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway idea, or a Tampa local trying to figure out when everything is taking place, we’ve put together a list of when all of the major events will take place.
Gasparilla Children’s Parade & “Piratechnic” Extravaganza
Where: Bayshore Boulevard, Tampa, FL
When: Saturday January 21, 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The festivities start each year with the Preschooler Stroll and Gasparilla Children’s Parade The preschooler stroll runs from Howard Ave. to Rome Ave., while the children’s parade goes from Bay to Bay Blvd. to Edison Ave. The United States Special Operation Jump Team will conduct a parachute jump at 3 p.m. The day will then end with a fireworks display at 7 p.m. along the waterfront.
Bring the entire family to this alcohol-free event.
Pirate Invasion, Gasparilla Parade of Pirates & Pirate Fest
Where: Invasion & Parade: Bayshore Boulevard, Tampa, FL
Pirate Fest: Riverwalk,
When: Saturday January 28, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The following weekend will feature the main event! Watch the pirate ships cruise along the Hillsborough Bay towards Downtown Tampa from 11:30am-1:000pm Boulevard during the annual Gasparilla Invasion. Immediately following, you can take part in the Parade of Pirates where the Captain and his “krewe” will toss their treasures to the crowd in celebration of capturing the city. Cheer on the pirates and get your “loot” along the 3.8 mile parade route.
Also, don’t forget to attend the Pirate Fest! From 9 a,m, to 9 p.m., enjoy live entertainment along Riverwalk in downtown Tampa. With vendors, an optional Gasparilla Brunch (tickets required), and more, it’s time to don your favorite pirate gear and get ready for Gasparilla 2017!
Krewe of the Knights of Sant’Yago Knight Parade
Where: Ybor City, Tampa, FL
When: Saturday, February 11 at 6 p.m. – Sunday, February 12 at 1 a.m.
Two weeks after the Pirate Invasion comes the annual Knight Parade. Held in historic Ybor city, this parade runs from 6:30pm – 1:00am and runs along 7th Ave. between Nuccio Parkway and 22nd Ave. features illuminated floats, beads for spectators, and more. Considered the most “adult” event of the bunch, this is one party you simply can’t miss!
Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend
If you are a runner, the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic is not to be missed. On the weekend of February 25 and 26, you can participate in a 5K, 8K, 15K, Half Marathon, Team Events and more. Registration is open now, so get those running shoes ready!
